Athlete Well-Being: A Guide to Recognizing and Preventing Emotional Abuse

Emotional abuse is the most common form of athlete maltreatment but often goes unrecognized. This course aims to help learners identify the various forms of emotional abuse prevalent in coaching, understand the impacts of this mistreatment on athletes, and foster a supportive environment that encourages growth and success without employing emotionally abusive tactics.

Athlete Well-Being: A Guide to Recognizing and Preventing Emotional Abuse

This course will help learners:

  • Recognize different forms of emotional abuse prevalent in sports coaching.
  • Understand the short- and long-term impacts of emotional abuse on athletes.
  • Implement athlete-centered coaching approaches, effective communication strategies, and consistent behavior expectations.
  • Create a supportive atmosphere that encourages athletes to report abuse without fear of retaliation.

Concussion Awareness – Coaches and Athletic Staff

Through this course, coaches and athletic staff will learn how to recognize the do’s and don’ts of concussions and the actionable steps to take when they suspect an athlete may have incurred a concussion.

  • The seriousness of concussive injuries
  • The importance of removing potentially concussed athletes from play
