About This Collection

Misuse of alcohol and drugs can have a wide range of serious consequences, including academic failure, injury, and death. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recently stated that almost 70% of drug overdose deaths involved opioids. This course collection emphasizes a harm-reduction approach that teaches students ways to use alcohol responsibly and informs them of the misconceptions and dangers associated with the illicit use of opioids.

Alcohol: Know Your Limit

First-year college students are vulnerable to binge drinking, especially during the first six weeks on campus. The key to addressing this problem is getting new students to recognize that there’s a better way.

Strategies for Reducing Alcohol-Related Harm

When students drink alcohol, they often don't know strategies to help keep them safe. This course may be used for students who have received alcohol-related sanctions. Your students will learn to identify serving sizes, use protective behavioral strategies (PBS) for drinking, and examine the immediate effects alcohol has on their bodies.

Cannabis: Protective Behavioral Strategies

Use of cannabis by college students has reached historic levels. Heavy use is associated with poor academic performance and increased rates of dropping out. This course helps educate students about the risks and effects of cannabis use, and stresses protective strategies they can employ if they choose to use cannabis.
