On April 19, 2024, the Department of Education released final regulations related to Title IX that will govern how educational institutions conduct inquiries into allegations of sex discrimination, including student sexual misconduct and pregnancy discrimination. These regulations took effect Aug. 1, 2024. Several lawsuits sought to enjoin the regulations from taking effect; rulings have temporarily blocked the regulations in several states and against certain institutions. Be sure to understand whether one of the injunctions applies to your institution.
Consult with legal counsel to understand both the impact of these new regulations and the legal rulings on your institution’s policies and practices.
United Educators (UE) will continue to update our Title IX resources and training materials to reflect the new 2024 regulations. Look for alerts about new and updated resources in our weekly Your UE Insider newsletter or check this landing page. For members affected by the injunctions, we are also retaining materials explaining the 2020 Title IX regulations. See all of these resources below.
