Melanie Bennett of United Educators Joins HEPNet Board
Bethesda, Md., Nov. 15, 2022 — Melanie Bennett, Esq., a Senior Risk Management Counsel at United Educators, has been tapped by the Higher Education Protection Network (HEPNet) to serve on its Board of Directors from 2023-25.
HEPNet — a nonprofit comprised of 150 colleges and universities — provides higher ed institutions with resources and the ability to meet and discuss how to protect minors and other vulnerable people on campus.
“I am honored to serve on HEPNet’s board and contribute to their work, helping higher education institutions create comprehensive and effective programs for protecting minors,” Bennett said.
At UE, Bennett’s areas of risk management expertise include protecting minors, enterprise risk management (ERM), technology accessibility, athletics, and pandemic response.
Prior to joining UE, she served as a law clerk for a special education law office and interned with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. She received her undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis and her law degree from American University Washington College of Law. She is a member of the Maryland Bar.
Bennett also is Affiliations Committee Chair for HEPNet and is an active member of other education-focused associations including the National Association of College and University Attorneys, the National Business Officers Association, the Risk & Insurance Management Society, and the University Risk Management and Insurance Association.
