Sarah Braughler leads United Educators’ (UE’s) Risk Management department, supporting members in their efforts to successfully manage risks threatening student safety, faculty and staff performance, and the institution’s academic mission.
Sarah works with a staff of subject matter experts, learning designers, technologists, and consultants to deliver publications, webinars, workshops, online courses, and consulting services to meet UE member needs. In addition, Sarah oversees product development for the Canopy Programs™ business unit, which provides fee-based risk management resources to educational institutions beyond the UE membership.
Sarah has worked at UE since 2004, serving previously as Associate Vice President for Risk Management. There, she oversaw consulting services, risk research, and online program development, deployment, and support. She also held leadership positions with UE’s Resolutions team managing complex insurance claims, high exposure litigation, and frequent loss matters.
Sarah is a member of the University Risk Management and Insurance Association, the National Association of College and University Attorneys, and NBOA. She also coauthored the second edition of “Risk Management: An Accountability Guide for University and College Boards,” published by the Association of Governing Board of Universities and Colleges.
Prior to joining UE, Sarah was an attorney for the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, the state’s largest postsecondary educational institution. She also served as a judicial clerk for The Honorable Lewis G. Paisley at the Fayette Circuit Court in Lexington, Ky.
Sarah completed her undergraduate work at Wake Forest University in English and received her law degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law and is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association.
She is a married mother of three who lives in Chevy Chase, Md., and enjoys reading and yoga.
